There was plenty of confusion in St. Louis, Mo., tonight as tornado activity kicked up soon after major twisters hit the Oklahoma City area. Reports spread by AccuWeather of people trapped in the debris of Busch Stadium turned out to be anything but accurate.

There were also reports of a “mass casualty event” at a Holiday Inn in Earth City, Mo., but those too seem to have been premature.
KMOV just reported “mass casualties” they are trying to confirm. KSDK said minutes ago only damages. #stlwx

KMOV says “if there are mass casualties …” can we wait to report this as “mass casualties” UNTIL we know? KSDK and KTVI say damages.

The earth city Holiday Inn is completely fine. No one hurt. No structural damage. #niceworkidiots …glad everyone is ok though.

Near St Louis: Holiday Inn/Earth City was damaged. Hollywood Casino/Maryland Heights lost roof, being evacuated. No injuries either place.
— TWC Breaking (@TWCBreaking) June 1, 2013
This seems to have been the point of confusion.
The fire dept set up a command post at the Holiday Inn for a "mass casualty" contigency..NOT for mass casualties.
