Colorado senate passes magazine limit 18-17; Update: Is Democrat representative going wobbly?

The Colorado has voted 18-17 to pass the controversial House Bill 1224, which bans magazines larger than 15 rounds and threatens to drive manufacturer Magpul out of the state. State Sen. Greg Brophy, a Republican, told his colleagues, “I will willfully and purposefully and civilly disobey this law.”

The measure now heads back to the House for a vote because it was amended in the Senate.

If passed, anyone who currently possesses a magazine that holds more than 15 rounds is able to keep it, though if they transfer or sell the magazine, that individual would face a class 2 misdemeanor charge.

Seven gun control laws have been debated contentiously over the past several days, and reaction to the bill’s passage was swift.

Update:

Plenty were anxious to roll out the welcome mat for Magpul, and the sweeping scope of Colorado’s gun control package has drawn interest from across the nation.

Update:

There was an unconfirmed report that Democratic Rep. Mike McLachlan might be flip-flopping on HB 1224, which heads back to the state House in its amended form. Some tweets suggest that House Speaker Mark Ferrandino has clamped down, though, although the precise “safe” limit of magazine capacity seems to be just as arbitrary as critics suggest.
