We all know the media tried to make the government’s lockdowns and restrictions across the world seem like it was no big deal during the actual pandemic. The BBC took it a step further and wrote an article based on a study saying the effects on mental health were ‘minimal’.
Mental-health crisis from pandemic was minimal, study suggests https://t.co/onndfrA5Tv

Twitter was not going to let it stand. The reader fact-check feature along with some light-hearted ‘I was not ok’ tweets made for some great reading entertainment and we wanted to share it all with you.
Let us start with some of the more serious indictments of the study.
“Women felt the impact of the pandemic more because of the jobs they do and the role they play in family life.”
This suffering is not “minimal.”
— Rev. Dr. Jacqui Lewis (@RevJacquiLewis) March 9, 2023
The political ideology of the Twitter users did not seem to matter. Most everyone was in agreement that the pandemic restrictions DID indeed hurt many people and it was not at all ‘minimal’.
I MEAN
Also did they talk to any parents about the reverb their kids of significant developing ages are experiencing still?
— Rabbi Danya Ruttenberg (@TheRaDR) March 9, 2023
We do not believe they did. We would love to see what some of the parents who were literally arrested at school board meetings have to say, along with the children who are years behind in their education.
The damage to some of our children’s education is NOT ‘minimal’.
WOW (TW: suicide)
Really glad that time I was so overwhelmed with pandemic anxiety, PPD, and my regular-degular anxiety weighed down on me so heavily that I considered killing myself daily is considered minimum.
— Camille Hernandez (@hellocamilleh) March 9, 2023
We are not saying everyone was ready to commit suicide, but to pretend like the mental health aspects of the lockdowns were no big deal, is just gross.
Let’s move on to something a little less depressing and take a look at some of the funnier tweets about how others know their mental health was not the best during the pandemic.
Explain why I have this then https://t.co/QgKb7KmYVg pic.twitter.com/gBfPYHJuCx

HA! If he was not having mental problems before, waking up in the night to that is not going to help.
I got divorced on Zoom https://t.co/VwTyH50PVk

Zoom divorce seems like the best thing out of lockdowns, you do not have to see the ex face to face.
I recreated every dumb idea in my brain in HO scale in my basement. https://t.co/SkuTP7Cz7b pic.twitter.com/ngmLlE6CRm

EL-oh-EL. This one may be our favorite. Think of the hours that took!
Had a birthday party for the dishwasher https://t.co/FX6Qp3clEB pic.twitter.com/ahri7GTRM7

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEAR DISHWASHER! Hey, if you ever had to hand wash dishes on a regular basis you might throw a party for a dishwasher too!
Now we move to the people noting the reader fact-check.
Twitter adding this reader / context feature is the best thing that came out of this hell of a website lmao https://t.co/y2psaSfyyu
— (G)ekko (@agravesmistake) March 12, 2023
ngl this fact check feature is kinda useful https://t.co/MKrqGLQ229
— mr d'luxo 🐢🏌️♂️ (@sockdeluxe) March 11, 2023
YUP! We love it. It has come in handy more than once and now that Twitter is actually allowing it even if it goes against some Lefty policies, it’s even better!
IT'S OVER BRO THEY ADDED THE CONTEXT TO YA TWEET https://t.co/htI7PuBSgH pic.twitter.com/XAe9y1KiPm
— CHOAS!!! (@Necksplitter) March 11, 2023
The excitement that the tweet above exuded just made us happy.
Not exactly a good study then, is it? pic.twitter.com/EOE71CZSvv
— Matthew Breen (@matbreen) March 10, 2023
Wow that's a lot of caveats!
— Eddie from NYC (@Eddie_NYC) March 11, 2023
Exactly! How good is a study that does not explore the groups of people we KNOW the restrictions hurt most? It is like saying I want to study how being poor affects society, but we will only include upper middle class and rich people. OF COURSE, IT WILL BE MINIMAL!
Mask Karens still exist. https://t.co/pkQBwLBrZB pic.twitter.com/5A46nWEI1o
— Eric Spencer (@JustEric) March 12, 2023
We ended with this one because it does indeed show how much the pandemic in general hurt the mental health of so many.
There are still people wearing masks alone in their cars, people who have not seen loved ones in years, and it is not because they are mentally stable…
Let us remember how it really was, and what restrictions really did, and try to not let it happen ever again.
