Senator Dianne Feinstein, who has served the state of California for a little over 30 years, has announced that she will not seek reelection in 2024:
I am announcing today I will not run for reelection in 2024 but intend to accomplish as much for California as I can through the end of next year when my term ends. Even with a divided Congress, we can still pass bills that will improve lives.

Fox News reported that there seems to have been a little confusion on Feinstein’s part about whether or not she was actually retiring:
Democrat California Sen. Dianne Feinstein appeared unaware of her own retirement announcement Tuesday, telling a group of reporters at the Capitol that she hadn’t made a decision on her future despite announcing just hours before that she would not be seeking reelection in 2024.
According to multiple reports, a Feinstein staffer quickly notified the senator that a statement had already been made on her retirement, prompting her to say she was unaware the information had been released.
Fortunately, though, the news seems to be accurate, and Twitter reacted as only Twitter can:

Ouch, but also LOL.
People are bringing up one of her greatest hits:
Re-upping my favorite video ever, which happens to be of Dianne Feinstein. We need more legislators willing to crush the dreams of 8 year olds, in my personal opinion pic.twitter.com/PTYygpopoz

“Shut up,” she explained.

Priceless!

Priceless, indeed. If there’s a better example of how elected officials really view the concerns of the people they’re supposed to be representing, we haven’t seen it.
There is this, though:
What the hell, I love Dianne Feinstein now! Put those little hippies in their place!

We honestly kind of love that part, too.
Naturally there’s been some speculation about who will step up to take her place:
