American Girl publishes book encouraging puberty blockers

In an apparent bid to get some of that sweet, sweet woke cred, toy company American Girl has published a book on positive body image that also encourages girls to seek out puberty blockers if they need more time to “think about your gender identity”:

From the Daily Mail:

The popular American Girl doll brand is facing backlash for pushing children as young as three years old into changing their gender.

A Smart Girl’s Guide: Body Image, contains lines that give advice to prepubescents on how to change their gender – without their guardians’ blessing. Parents have since slammed the book’s contents as ‘deceptive and dangerous.

A passage in the book – marketed to girls aged between three and 12 advises: ‘If you haven’t gone through puberty yet, the doctor might offer medicine to delay your body’s changes, giving you more time to think about your gender identity.’

It also provides a list of resources for organizations the children can turn to ‘if you don’t have an adult you trust’.

It’s no secret that puberty is a challenging time for everyone who goes through it. Every person alive has parts of themselves they don’t like, and some of those feelings absolutely go deeper than others. For an iconic and very influential brand to endorse children going behind their parents backs is beyond irresponsible.

It’s particularly unsettling that in the name of loving the body you were born with, drugs or surgery should be the solution:

From Fox News:

Cat Cattinson, a detransitioner who lost her singing voice after receiving “gender-affirming” treatment, said the message behind American Girl’s book, “that a girl can be born into the wrong body and need drugs or surgery to be herself contradicts the message of the body acceptance movement.”

“We should instead strive to convey to young girls is that they can be whatever kind of girls they want to be in the bodies they have,” she added.

American Girl is indeed sending a very mixed message here.
