New York City Council Member Tiffany Cabán shared her office’s suggestions on what small businesses should do when faced with a possibly dangerous situation (spoiler alert: it’s not ‘call the police’):
Wanted to share this Public Safety Resources poster @ZohranKMamdani and my offices collaborated on.

We’re distributing them to local businesses, so our neighborhood is equipped with better ways of solving problems than simply summoning police every time a challenge arises. pic.twitter.com/zvpMWDRdeL
Here’s the image of the poster as a stand alone:
Imagine being a small business owner and being asked to follow this advice. Then take a good look at the poster again.
Pay close attention to the language and you’ll get a better sense of what is going on here.

In other words, don’t call the cops, spill your soda and chat about high school instead!
My colleague @tiffany_caban has advice for anyone about to be attacked, stabbed, or murdered: You don’t need the cops. Spill a soda to distract the perp, or ask them where they went to school. https://t.co/Un76ovIea1

Hey, didn't I go to high school with you? pic.twitter.com/hb0Lr1556z

After all, it wouldn’t be very neighborly of you to want someone who was about to cause you grievous bodily harm to be stopped by those yucky police officers, would it?
Interesting to note the timing of these super helpful “safety resource tips”:
Two days before a maniac stabbed to death an EMT lieutenant in Astoria on Thursday, defund-the-police-promoting Queens Councilwoman Tiffany Caban and Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani released a “public safety” guide discouraging merchants from calling the cops. https://t.co/eDHqfdxla9

It’s almost as if these types of policies are completely unrealistic and ineffective.
Because the most important thing is that those who are in the process of committing crimes feel safe.

Yep. That sure seems to be the real focus.
