As we watch the Left lose their minds over President Donald Trump and Elon Musk, I was reminded of something that happened three years ago today.
Today is the anniversary of X (then Twitter) suspending parody count The Babylon Bee for the thoughtcrime of misgendering Richard ('Rachel') Levine, the first openly trans person to be appointed Assistant Secretary for Health and Human Services.
Here's what The New York Post reported at the time:
Twitter locked the account of a right-leaning parody site, The Babylon Bee, after it awarded Rachel Levine, the transgender Biden administration official, the title of 'man of the year.'
The Babylon Bee story was a reaction to USA Today’s naming of Levine, who is US assistant secretary for health for the US Department of Health and Human Services, as one of its 'women of the year' last week.
Twitter says it will restore the account, which has more than 1.3 million followers, if the Bee deletes the tweet, but CEO Seth Dillon says he has no intention of doing so.
'We’re not deleting anything,' Dillon tweeted from his personal account. 'Truth is not hate speech. If the cost of telling the truth is the loss of our Twitter account, then so be it.'
It was this blatant censorship that pushed Elon Musk to purchase Twitter and rebrand it X.
The rest, as they say, is history.

Elon Musk's takeover of X was the moment that changed social media forever and for the better. Prior to that, 65% of X users were Democrats. The platform is now balanced, with a 48-47% split that still favors the Left.
The Left, of course, sees this even split as a Right-wing bias because they're so used to having a stranglehold on social media that equality feels like bias.
But it's not.
I'm sure books will be written about this, too, but one can draw a direct line from Elon's purchase of X to President Donald Trump winning reelection in 2024.
Yet because the Left is incapable of introspection or learning from their mistakes, they're now repeating their radical political overreach. Only now they've cranked it up to eleven.
They're attacking Tesla owners, defacing Tesla vehicles, and burning dealerships. Always quick to blame the victim when the victim is conservative, The New Republic said it's Elon Musk's fault Leftists act like rabid dogs at the sight of his vehicles.
For her part, Attorney General Pam Bondi has promised severe charges for the domestic terrorists (that's what they are, after all), and -- to date -- three defendants are facing twenty years in federal prison. The Trump administration must send the message that this lawlessness will not be tolerated. Two decades behind bars will do that.
But the Left, if they were smart, would remember what happened three years ago thanks to their overreach, and that the things they're doing today will have consequences they won't realize until tomorrow.
Five minutes ago, Leftists were using Tesla ownership as a status symbol and a virtue-signaling totem that said, 'I care about the environment, why don't you?!' Even though President Trump had Elon bring Teslas to the White House lawn, the majority of Tesla owners are not wearing MAGA hats. The Left are attacking their own base.
If you watch this video of a female Tesla owner being cut off and threatened by a Leftist, you'll notice she's apologetic and adamant that she's a liberal.
And while she may be suffering from Stockholm Syndrome, a lot of Tesla owners will not follow suit.
I can only speak for myself, but I like to think I have a lot in common with the average American. There's nothing special about me, but if someone threatens me because they've deemed I'm guilty for the car I drive (or who I vote for), I'm not going to kowtow to their demands. I'm going to do the opposite.
I have no reason to believe a significant portion of Tesla owners and Americans of all political stripes won't do the same thing.
It took two years for The Babylon Bee fallout to manifest into the reelection of Donald Trump.
I can't wait to see what happens in 2026 and 2028 thanks to the behavior of the Left today.
Maybe then they'll learn that, as someone I know always says, that the other side gets to move and shoot, too.
