The Left Doth Protest Too Much

AP Photo/Evan Vucci

So.

We're a week out from the presidential election and things are, in a word, tense. For my part, I stand by my belief Donald Trump wins this election next Tuesday, and by a healthy enough margin the Left can't pull their usual shenanigans.

That wasn't a position I always held. I was a DeSantis voter in the primary, largely because I was unhappy with the way Donald Trump handled COVID, even though I voted for Trump in 2020 (I was one of the many back then who said Joe Biden was unwell, which is why I voted against him). But Trump is the nominee. Joe Biden's administration has been an unmitigated disaster both foreign and domestic. My vote for Trump is a vote against the Left.

Kamala Harris is part and parcel of the Biden administration, and no one with a functioning brain genuinely believes she'd do anything better than Biden. It is my belief, and there's ample evidence to back this, that Kamala will actually be a very Left-wing president on every major policy issue.

It bears repeating that the reason Joe Biden is no longer the Democratic nominee is not because of his cognitive decline. That should be the reason he withdrew and it should be the reason the Democrats remove him from office now, rather than in January. But it's not.

He was removed for one reason and one reason only: he was going to lose to Donald Trump.

And so is Kamala Harris. She's going to lose, largely, because she's got the albatross of the Biden-Harris administration policies around her neck and she doesn't have the brains or political savvy to relieve herself of that burden.

But what's going to really tip the scales in Trump's favor are the very people so hellbent on destroying him: the Left.

As the election nears and Kamala's campaign crumbles -- they've pulled ads from North Carolina and Wisconsin, and her blue wall is, by her campaign's own admission, cracking -- the Left is getting more and more hysterical, more and more unhinged, and even more unglued.

They have gone all-in on their closing argument that Donald Trump is a Hitler-esque fascist. It's a worn out card they've played for decades, and now it has no power her. Even Politico, hardly a bastion of Right-wing reporting, thinks it's a mistake:

They write (emphasis added):

Kamala Harris’ hammering of Donald Trump’s authoritarian rhetoric is alarming some Democrats in this critical swing state who fear that message is falling flat.

Voters, they argue, have grown desensitized to Trump and the warnings about him. Polls not only show the economy remains the top concern here, but that Trump holds the advantage on it. And activists worry Harris’ attacks on Trump are distracting from her strongest issue: abortion rights.

In Michigan, where the cracks in Democrats’ traditional coalition have set the party on edge for months, the concern about Harris’ late-stage tactic is coming from all corners.

'It doesn’t play well in communities that are struggling to make ends meet, and that’s the problem. They’re talking to the wrong people,' said Sherry Gay-Dagnogo, a former state representative and Detroit school board member who is backing Harris. 'We can’t keep campaigning on modes of fear.'

Fear is all they have. Kamala has been unable to articulate, clearly and consistently, any policy proposal outside abortion. Abortion on demand, on the taxpayer dime, and without exception for religious institutions or conscientious objectors. Politico is right: it's her strongest issue, but she's crossed a line most Americans find untenable.

And that's the key here: what the Left is doing is, to most Americans, untenable.

Because they're not just calling Donald Trump a fascist and a Nazi. They're calling his voters -- not his supporters, his voters -- Nazis.

Tens of millions of us.

That is not an accusation to throw about lightly, and it's not one to throw around hypocritically.

While the Left screams the Israeli-flag waving Jews at the Madison Square Garden rally are really members of the Schutzstaffel, they applaud the Hamas-flag waving, Jew-targeting antisemitism that has run rampant on college campuses for the better part of a year.

Those goons face no charges, but the implication of calling Trump's voters 'Nazis' is clear: there need to be consequences. Nazis are bad and the only logical conclusion here is some sort of punishment for those of us deemed Nazis by our moral and intellectual superiors.

People see this and the Democrats must be repudiated for it:

And it's not just the cries of fascism.

At both The Lost Angeles Times and The Washington Post -- outlets that declined to endorse any presidential candidate this year -- several journalists have resigned in protest.

(For those wondering, Jennifer Rubin has not yet resigned)

The most true thing Donald Trump ever said was the media are the enemy of the people. And the people know this now. For years, the media have lied to us while running coverage for Democrats. They are no different than Pravda, the propaganda arm of the Democratic Party.

Which is why they're telling their viewers, earnestly, that they'll end up in camps if Trump wins:

Trust in media is at historic lows, and it's earned.

It's not just journalists, however. Celebrities -- rich, privileged, and unspeakably out of touch with the average American -- are also jumping on the Kamala bandwagon. And there's nothing Americans who struggle to put food on the table love more than a billionaire telling them everything's peachy.

There's also a level of unhinged lunacy that gives sane Americans pause. On 'The View', Whoopi Goldberg said if Trump wins he will dissolve interracial marriages, deport the women, and marry the white men off to other white women.

No, she really did:

I'm sure this latest policy platform will come as news to J.D. and Usha Vance.

My point is this: the Left are not acting like Kamala has a winning campaign. They are getting increasingly hysterical, increasingly hyperbolic, and increasingly more inflammatory in their rhetoric.

This is not going to win over voters. Quite the opposite. As I said above, my vote is not so much for Trump as it is against the Left. My vote is a protest over the actual sort of fascism they not only support but actively seek to enforce on the rest of us.

The polls, and their trends, seem to indicate voters share my sentiment: as the Left gets more unglued, voters are pushed more towards Trump as a repudiation of the Left and their insanity.

The louder they scream, the more they insist Trump and his voters are the second coming of the Wehrmachtand the more they try to instill fear in the American people, the more voters they lose.

The Left doth protest too much, methinks.

And it will be their undoing.
