A Republic, If You Can Keep It: Democrats 'Defend' Democracy by Barring Their Opposition From the Ballot

AP Photo/Terry Spencer

How many times have we heard the Left scream that Donald Trump is a 'threat' to democracy. One so ominous, that we must stop at nothing to ensure he is not only not reelected, but that his name doesn't even appear on the ballot.

Right now, the Supreme Court is considering Colorado's Supreme Court decision to bar Trump from the ballot under the Fourteenth Amendment. Read more about this here. It didn't seem to go well for Colorado, as the Secretary of State said SCOTUS is 'not friendly' to democracy (in an interview where she was on the verge of tears).

'But that's Trump,' you might say. 'That's different.'

No, it really isn't.

And it's not just Trump.

Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. is also running for president as an independent. We've already written about how the Biden administration has denied him Secret Service protection here and here. It's not like the guy's father and uncle were assassinated (and his father's assassination was the impetus for giving presidential candidates Secret Service protection in the first place).

But we digress.

The DNC is filing a complaint with the FEC accusing RFK and his super PAC of 'collusion' to get on the ballot.

They sure do like that word, 'collusion', don't they?

Sounds so nefarious.

More from CBS News:

The Democratic National Committee announced Friday that it is filing a Federal Election Commission complaint against Robert F. Kennedy Jr. 's independent presidential campaign and the super PAC supporting him on allegations the two are colluding to get Kennedy ballot access.

On Dec. 5, super PAC American Values 2024 announced it would invest $10 million to $15 million in ballot access, with the aim of getting Kennedy on the ballot in at least 10 states.

In the FEC complaint, the DNC claims that in the states in which American Values 2024 has announced a ballot access initiative, each "requires the candidate to submit a draft signature petition for state approval, turn in the completed forms, identify the individuals who collected the signatures, and obtain certification for circulators."

The DNC complaint alleges that the super PAC is coordinating "its activity with Mr. Kennedy and his campaign in a way that violates federal campaign finance laws."

"Our complaint asks the FEC to begin an investigation and remedy the violations that they find," DNC legal counsel Robert Lenhard said in a press briefing Friday.

The horror! The horror!

If the DNC were smart (they're not), they'd note that RFK Jr. likely pulls more voters from Trump than Biden.

That, however, is not the point. And the fact we're actually a constitutional republic is also lost on them, so we won't even go down that path today.

How can the Democrats say they are the only defenders of democracy when they're determined to remove any and all candidates they don't like from the ballot?

Democracy is defined as 'a system of government in which state power is vested in the people or the general population of a state.'

And the Left is terrified people won't vote they way they like.

Go back to Proposition 8. That bill, which meant to bar same-sex marriage, passed in California by a vote of 52.24% in favor to 47.76% against. In CALIFORNIA.

But the Left would not respect the will of the people there, or in the other states where similar measures passed via democratic votes.

When Stacy Abrams lost in Georgia, the election was rigged against her. When Trump won in 2016, it was Russian 'collusion' (gee, there's that word again). Going back to 2000, Bush vs. Gore was also a 'stolen' election.

Get the point: Democrats lose, and the election is illegitimate. Every single time.

It isn't a good look.

But it's what they're doing, and they're not even shy about hiding it anymore.

Weak, pathetic, and very, very dangerous.

'Saving our democracy' by turning it into an oligarchy.

Remember January 6? How the Left says it was an insurrection tantamount to the Civil War (it wasn't, but we won't go there right now). The Left has done that for years. Go back to Act 10 in Wisconsin, when they occupied the Wisconsin Capitol for weeks, trying to stop the vote. They derailed a hearing featuring Secretary Blinken. They shut down the California state capitol. They interrupted oral arguments at SCOTUS.

And most recently, in Iowa, they've stormed the capitol over a vote about a bill defining 'man' and woman.'

So they have no qualms whatsoever about disrupting the democratic process when it serves their purposes. When they don't get their way, they throw temper tantrums and resort to disruption, threats, and violence to get what they want.

But they're the 'defenders' of democracy.

Preaching to the choir here, but we all know the Left are hypocrites, and if they didn't have double standards, they'd have none whatsoever.

Actions speak louder than words, however, and their actions are incredibly revealing.

They don't want democracy.

They don't want you, or I, or any of us voting for a candidate they don't like. Because that candidate might win and break the stranglehold they have on power and control.

They will go to whatever lengths they can to give themselves an unfair advantage at the ballot box. Failing that, they'll resort to tactics that would land people like you or me in prison for hundreds of years (they'll applaud it, too), and believe they are morally superior.

The only way -- the only way -- to combat this is to vote. Vote for the candidate you want, not the one they force on you, no matter how Quixotic the campaign. Write in a candidate if you must. Sitting at home and letting them run roughshod over elections is not the solution.

Send a message that you will engage in the democratic process, even if they don't like it.
