Will Francis Lead to Schism? Letter to Pope, Opposing Fiducia Supplicans, Gains Steam

I've written extensively about Pope Francis and his absurd, borderline heretical, and controversial statements and actions.

His latest document, Fiducia Supplicans, is causing what can only be described as schisms in the Catholic Church. The African bishops are vehemently opposed to it, while the leftwing American clergy are gleefully blessing same-sex unions. The ambiguous nature of the document, plus it's defiance of eons of Catholic teaching is a problem

Now, a letter to Pope Francis, 90-plus clergy are rebelling against Fiducia Supplicans, and calling on clergy to oppose the document.

From Newsweek:

A group of 90 Catholic clergymen, scholars and authors have published a joint letter to "all Cardinals and Bishops of the Catholic Church," urging them to oppose a Vatican document approved by Pope Francis that allows priests to bless same-sex unions for the first time.

In the letter, the Catholic conservatives say that Fiducia Supplicans, a Vatican doctrine released on December 18 and signed by the Pope, would lead to the blessing of "objectively sinful" relationships. They add that the cardinals and bishops should "forbid immediately the application of this document in your diocese" and "ask directly the Pope to urgently withdraw this unfortunate document, which is in contradiction with both Scripture and the universal and uninterrupted Tradition of the Church."

The Fiducia Supplicans permits the blessing of those couples not considered to be married, according to the Catholic Church, including those that are same sex. This has proven deeply controversial within the global church, winning praise from reformers, while infuriating conservatives and being openly opposed by the Symposium of Episcopal Conferences of Africa and Madagascar.

The frustration over Pope Francis -- who authors documents like this and lets known abusers like Fr. Rupnik continue to create art, while punishing traditional Catholics and suppressing the Latin Mass as 'rigid' -- has damaged my faith.

At a time when I need it most.

It's refreshing to see people stand up in defense of the faith and against a Pope who has a political agenda that conflicts with the duties of his position.

We can only hope so.

And it's diametrically opposed to what the Church has taught for millennia.

Will he?

I'm not holding my breath, alas.

Probably would've been wise.

It is soliciting a strong response, because it undoes Catholic teaching and creates intentional confusion.

Certain leftwing priests are using it as proof to bless gay unions and couples.

African Bishops and others say it is not in line with Catholic teaching.

The Pope is allowing this.

An impressive list of names.

Fiducia Supplicans is a mistake. A gross mistake that is damaging the Catholic Church.

The purpose of the Pope is to teach, to lead, and to adhere to the doctrines of the Church to bring more faithful into the flock and keep those already there.

He's failing on every single level.

Whether lecturing us how Christians and Marxists are the same (they're not), condemning Israel for justly defending itself, or attacking traditional Catholics, the Pope is not pastoral. He is sowing chaos and will lead to a schism, which is -- perhaps -- what the Pope wants.

But for someone who derides traditionalists as 'rigid' and 'inflexible', will he lead by example? Will he be humble and admit his error?

Time will tell. But don't bet on it.
