Not The Robot Uprising: Oregon State Says Suspect In Custody After Food Delivery Robot Bomb Threats

(Melinda Sue Gordon/Paramount Pictures via AP)

Some of us have warned about AI and robots and the dangers inherent therein. We've all seen 'The Terminator' movies, after all.

So last night, when Oregon State tweeted out warnings about robots and bombs to students, well, things could've gotten interesting:

'Avoid all robots until further notice' sounds like something straight out of a dystopian sci-fi movie.

The thread continues:

Naturally, Twitter/X had some fun with things:

They did not heed the warnings.

We chuckled.

But if it was, you probably win the prize.

Everyone keeps coming back to the 'avoid all robots' line.

Actually laughed out loud at this one.

And what a time to be alive.

It sure is.

Probably a wise move. RIP, Roomba.

But if it's a white pizza? Worth it.

Sure feels that way.

We're sure there are so many questions.

Force powers, for the win.

But it turns out it wasn't the great robot uprising of 2023. So what was it?

Well,

KPTV.com reports:

Oregon State University says a suspect is in custody for a bomb threat involving food delivery robots.

Just before 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, the university posted on X, formerly Twitter, that there was a bomb threat involving Starship food delivery robots. The university began asking people not to open the robots and to avoid all robots until further notice.

By 1 p.m., the university said the robots were remotely isolating in a safe location. A law enforcement dog trained in bomb detection inspected all robots and shortly before 2 p.m., all robots were cleared with none containing explosive devices.

A suspect believed to be responsible for the threat has been arrested, according to Oregon State University.

Yikes.

Neither did we.

So stay vigilant. You never know when the robots will rise up.
